Lens: Voigtlander nokton 50mm f1.1

I’m STUCK. More than ever. On the wrong side. And I feel the pressure. Almost everything in my life is now pushing me to make the jump. But I can’t. So what? Well, I suppose that when the pressure will be too high, the glass that divides my two lives, art from reality, heart from brain, soul from body, a permanent-position job, son of years of painful studies, from an independent business, sone of a nurtured talent, well, that this glass will simply explode, and that the vacuum will once and for all suck me in the right compartment. I just hope I can endure the pressure for as long as it will take…
About this shot, it has been taken in my living room, I’m under a spotlight, reflecting on an Australian Aboriginal painting which hangs on the wall. We bought it at Alice Springs, in the wide and wild Australian Red Center, it was 2006 and we were on our honey moon. A couple of weeks later we would have left Rome to move to the Netherlands. This painting stayed packed for the following two years, waiting for us to return in Italy and find a good wall for it.

I have a 35mm Voigtlander Nokton f/1.4 and wondered what your thoughts were on any corner vignetting/purple fringing with the NEX7?
I have a C3 at the moment and want to upgrade, but am not sure the NEX 6 will be right for me.

Corner issues are quite weird, with the skopar I get them even stopped down when shooting the sky under certain conditions (which I yet didn't completely defined). Corner lack of definition, instead, gets better when stopping down. The Nokton at f1.4 could give worse problems than the skopar, but I can't tell for sure since it's more related with the lens-design than with pure aperture and focal lengths values…
If I were you I would wait a few days more just to see how the nex-6 performs with these lenses, since it could be the good one 🙂

I've managed to do OK with the C3 until now, but want to get something with a little more oomph, whilst keeping the C3 for ultra portable situations. The Voigtlander lens I have works well with it, and I haven't noticed weak corners, though I prefer overall character to photographs over pixel-peeking hi-res sharpness. I often add vignette to my photos as a personal preference anyway!
You're right – I will wait until the announcement of the NEX 6 to make my move. The issue is, that I am going on holiday to Thailand at the end of October, and really fancied some new kit… the 18-200mm LE has tempted me!
I'll either get a NEX 6 or 7 at some point though as I really love the large sensor in such a compact body, and the excellent focus peaking for manual focussing.

I see that you're going to Thailand and so you're eager to buy something new (who wouldn't!) but yet I'd suggest you to wait and see for the nex-6 if you're interested in going wider than 35mm. If, on the other hand, you're more into the fullframe- equivalent 50mm-135mmm rangefinder experience, then the nex-7 is the perfect solution. You can still get wider than that, but not with RF lenses, or at least not with fast ones. The nex-7 remains a bit more powerful than the 6, for what you can read around it allows for more customization, has a better viewfinder, and it's all in metal.
The 18-200 is a more than OK all-use zoom lens. I used it during my trip in Alaska, it was perfect to shoot bears (at 200mm) and not bad for landscape (at 18mm), and everything in between. But do not expect anything as spectacular as what your nokton delivers!

I ended up being the lucky birthday receipint this weekend of the SEL18200LE (black edition). I believe this lens will give me the reach I sometimes require when out and about; or on holiday. I don't want to constantly be changing manual rangefinder lenses and this lens has many plus points.
I'm going to see what the NEX-6 is like and potentially try one out in store here in Tokyo when they're released, before deciding NEX-6 or NEX-7. The C3 will still take great shots in Thailand (and elsewhere) – but I'm settled in to the NEX-scene now and am confident I don't *need* a 5D mkiii, which is just too much money for me, as a hobbyist.

Good for you, you got the lens you wished! As a multipurpose travel lens the SEL 18200 is one of the best solutions around,
If you can work with manual focusing and you like the NEX evf, you won't really need a 5D mkiii or any other bulky tool 🙂
