Summer holidays are approaching for everyone here in Rome. It’s very typical (in some cases even mandatory) that Italians take their holidays, usually around two to three weeks, in August. This actually makes it the worst month to be on holidays, since every place costs double than June or July, let alone September and its unpredictable weather, and everywhere it’s insanely crowded. But this is how it is, and for one reason or another the vast majority of Italians can’t avoid to go on holidays on August, even if they perfectly know that it’s a stupid idea.
This year the first of August is on Wednesday, and so many people (included both Claudia’s and my family) are leaving around the 27h of July already. And since I’ll be out into the wilderness of Alaska from the 23rd to the 31st, I’m starting to say goodbye and to wish happy holidays to people.
With the families, we decided to have a goodbye dinner at our place. Nights are lovely these days in Rome, and our terrace is extremely enjoyable. We were in total twelve adults and two babies. Four large buffalo mozzarellas, tuna and salmon carpaccio, and caviar were served as starters. As first course, I cooked a good pasta with squids and pecorino cheese (it may sound weird, but it’s excellent, trust me). My mother oven-baked five nice sea bass, and we had them for the second course. Ice-cream at the end. All of the food came, obviously, along with liters of excellent wine, brought by my father in-law.
We all ate too much. We all drunk a lot. We all happily talked about our plans for the holidays. We enjoyed the night till late. In a couple of weeks the city will be almost empty, we’ll all be attending our respective holidays plans, knowing that at the end we’ll all meet at another great dinner, the welcome back one.
